This is a follow-up to our Top 3 Must-Do’s in Sarasota post! There are so many great things to do in this small city on the Suncoast. After you’ve hit the main areas in Sarasota, you definitely have to check out these other great places in our beautiful city that we are lucky to now call home.
The John & Mable Ringling Museum is one of our favorite places to go in Sarasota. The museum features two great sections, the circus museums and the art museum. We wrote a post about what to see and do at Ringling because it is so great!
Marie Selby Gardens
Marie Selby Gardens are located on the bay, right near downtown Sarasota which makes for gorgeous views while you are walking around the grounds. Some of the highlights are the Conservatory which features an array of tropical plants, Bamboo Garden, Banyan Grove, and the Children’s Gardens. Check out their website for more information.
Anna Maria Island
Anna Maria Island is actually about a 45 minute drive from Sarasota but is so worth it. This is a quaint, charming area to walk around with excellent ocean views and no tall buildings or chain retailers allowed. You can even see the cruise ships departing from Tampa on certain evenings around sunset. Check out our post on how to make the most of your time in AMI!
Turtle Beach is a favorite because it is away from the crowds of the other popular beaches in the area. It also is an active turtle nesting habitat and a great place for fishing and other water activities due to it being less crowded. It’s located south of Siesta Key Beach, down Midnight Pass Road.
Sarasota Opera House
The Sarasota Opera House is located right in downtown and features world class productions. It was originally a theater that was converted into an opera house and received a complete makeover in 2008 to bring it back to it’s historic roots. Even if you might think the opera is not for you, it is a fun night out where you can dress up and experience the whole thing. (You can always leave early if you don’t like it!) The Sarasota opera season goes from March – April. Check out more information on their website.
University Town Center
Opened in 2013, the UTC Mall features over 125 shops and restaurants as well as more shops in the surrounding areas around the mall. It is a bright and beautiful mall to walk around. Our favorite place to eat there is Brio. If you need a place to escape the heat, or something to do on a rainy afternoon this is definitely a good option! Check out their website for a list of all the stores.
Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium is located just a few minutes drive from St. Armand’s Circle. It is a great place to go with kids for them to learn and see the different exhibits and Animal Hospital. You can also take boat tours, go kayaking, and lots more! Check out their website for hours and ticket prices.
Towles Court is a small artists colony located a few blocks away from the downtown Sarasota area. It features unique galleries, shops, and restaurants. Check out our post for more information on this area!
