Guilty Pleasure: Souvenir Shopping

Souvenir Shopping

Souvenir shopping is sometimes viewed as kind of silly and a waste of money. Visions of the stereotypical tourist buying “I Heart New York!” everything might come to mind. I have a confession though…I love souvenir shopping! I love buying little tchotchkes while I am traveling. It is a fun way for me to remember my trip.

My personal favorite is buying magnets. All of us gals like buying fun little mementos that maybe are a waste of money, but are great ways to decorate  and reminisce about where we have been. It is such an affordable way to document your trip.  We have hundreds of magnet from all around the world.  Sometimes I think it is not worth saving until I take them out and relive all the wonderful places we have visited and fabulous experiences all for the around $1 a piece.  I try to update my refrigerator regularly with trip magnets and each one evokes a different energy…Paris is romantic, Hawaii is relaxing, Asia is exciting! Of course we have quite a few Disney magnets as well.

It’s also fun to see the tactics used by vendors to get you to look at what they are selling. If you’ve been to Mexico, I’m sure you know what I mean! One thing I am very bad at is haggling. I am sure I have overpaid for every souvenir I’ve bought. I get too nervous!

This is a very small portion of our collection!

What types of souvenirs do you like to buy while traveling? Do you have any good shopping stories from while you were traveling?
