Disney World Hotel Hopping: Port Orleans French Quarter & Riverside

Hotel Hopping at Disney's Port Orleans

One of our favorite free things to do in Disney World is go hotel hopping! All of the hotels on Disney property are so fun to walk around. The decor and theming is always on point. Port Orleans is a resort we always kind of forget about it, and then every time we go there we rave about how much we love walking around here.

Disney’s Port Orleans is in the Disney Springs resort area. It is considered a moderate resort. It is split into two different areas: French Quarter & Riverside. The French Quarter is obviously an homage to New Orleans. It’s really fun walking around here, especially if you have been to the French Quarter in New Orleans. They really did a great job recreating it!

Riverside is reminiscent of the antebellum south along the Mississippi River. The hotel buildings here are styled to look like grand manor homes in the Magnolia Bend section and rustic lodges in Alligator Bayou. They really are striking to look at when you walk along the river.

Getting Here

Depending on where you are staying, you could take the bus to Disney Springs and then take the boat to Port Orleans. It’s a nice boat ride. Or you could go to any of the parks and take the Port Orleans resort bus. You could also drive if you have a car.

Things To Do at Port Orleans

French Quarter

We usually start on the French Quarter side. The lobby is cute with lots of New Orleans decor. The last few times we’ve been to Port Orleans French Quarter, they have had fun scavenger hunts around the resort. We’ve seen a pumpkin themed one around Halloween, Easter eggs, and the most recent one was flower themed. Ask the front desk! We like doing scavenger hunts because it gets you exploring other areas you might not necessarily check out.

Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory

Port Orleans French Quarter is also the only place in Disney World (as far as we know) that you can get beignets! They also have a vegan beignet option. You just have to ask. Head over to the Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory. This quick service restaurant is cafeteria style and has a lot of good food options.

The pool area is really fun with the Mardi Gras theme. You can grab a drink at Mardi Grogs. Otherwise, we just enjoy wandering around and looking at the buildings with the iron wrought fences. Also make sure to check out the street names.

Port Orleans French Quarter also does a Beignet Fun Run on Sundays, painting classes in Scat’s Cat lounge, horse drawn carriage rides, and Cajun campfire activities in the evening.

Port Orleans – Riverside

Riverside

After you’re done exploring the French Quarter, walk along the Sassagoula River over to the Riverside. It is so quaint and charming walking around here. There are definitely a lot of great spots to take photos. The pool area is nice, but really walking along the river is the best part. It is so gorgeous. If you really like to walk, there is a mile long jogging trail along the River.

Port Orleans – Riverside

Riverside has a quick service and a sit down restaurant. We’ve actually never eaten at either of these, so if you have please let us know what you thought. There is also a really cute store located in the main building.

The lobby bar at Port Orleans Riverside, River Roost, is where you can see local legend Yehaa Bob Jackson. His piano performance is silly and wildly entertaining. Definitely worth checking out!

After you’re done, take the boat over to Disney Springs! Do you like to hotel hop? What are your favorite resorts at Disney World?
