Bahamas Cruise on Mariner of the Seas

Port Canaveral – Perfect Day at Coco Cay – Nassau – Sea Day

Another great Royal Caribbean cruise! We just got off a four-night Bahamas cruise on Mariner of the Seas. The ship was fun, the food was good, the weather was awesome, and we got to see Royal Caribbean’s recently redone private island, Perfect Day at Coco Cay! We really liked this itinerary because we had a day at sea for the last day, which was very relaxing.

Things to do on Mariner of the Seas

Mariner of the Seas was recently redone in 2018 (or amplified as Royal Caribbean likes to say). Although this is a smaller ship, there is a lot to check out.  One of the things we are loving that Royal Caribbean is doing is putting in fun and colorful seating areas throughout the ship.

Of course, this ship has a lot of the standard things you find on a Royal Caribbean ship like spa and fitness center, main dining room, Windjammer Café, Chops Grille, Schooner Bar, Viking Crown Lounge (called Ellington’s on this ship), rock climbing wall, pool deck, casino, Adventure Ocean for the kiddos, and main theater. There are also some more unique activities and places to check out.

  • Flowrider, Sky Pad (trampoline with optional virtual reality experience), Laser Tag, Escape Room, 9-hole mini golf course, sports court, water slides.
  • Royal Promenade: We love ships that have a promenade! It just is another fun area to hang out and walk around. This is also where the 70s and 80s parties are located. The Royal Promenade on Mariner of the Seas has the shops, Playmakers Sports Bar, Bamboo Room tiki bar, the Pub, and a coffee bar and place to get pizza and sandwiches.
  • Diamond Lounge is located next to the Viking Crown Lounge. Not a lot of seating, but excellent views!
  • Solarium Pool is for those 16+ and has some nice hot tubs. On other ships the Solarium Pool is sometimes enclosed, but this one is outdoors.
  • Specialty Dining: Chops Grille, Izumi, Jamie’s Italian
Perfect Day at Coco Cay

Things to do in Coco Cay

When Royal Caribbean announced they were redoing Coco Cay, we were so excited to see the new changes! Perfect Day at Coco Cay is all about Thrill or Chill. We opted to Chill during our day here. After taking a walk around the island, we decided to hang out at the Oasis Pool because there was a swim-up bar and a DJ. This was definitely the fun place to chill!

For those wanting a little more action, there is a water park, zip line, and helium balloon ride available for an extra charge. The balloon was not operating while we were here due to wind. The newly opened Coco Beach Club looked incredible, but we did not want to pay for it at this time. If you are traveling with a group, you can also rent a cabana to have a real luxury experience on Coco Cay.

Most everything available on Coco Cay is included in your cruise. There are a few things that you have to pay extra for, but you do not need to spend any additional money to have a great time! It’s also really nice that the ships dock right at Coco Cay and you don’t have to tender.

When we docked at Coco Cay, I was a little disappointed to that there was another ship in port. However, we had no issues finding somewhere to sit and it never felt too crowded. One tip is if you are having lunch on Coco Cay, go right when the dining venues open so you don’t have to wait in line. All of the dining options are included, with the exception of Captain Jack’s Grill.

If you want to purchase any of the additional activities or amenities, check the prices and book ahead of time if you can because that is usually when you get the best price.

  • Thrill Waterpark
  • Chill Island
  • South Beach
  • Coco Beach Club
Nassau - Paradise Island - Atlantis
Atlantis – Paradise Island

Things to do in Nassau

Our second stop of the cruise was Nassau. We have been here multiple times, so we did not do any shore excursions of tours. It’s been a while since we’ve been over to Paradise Island, so we decided to take a ferry over to walk around. The ferry ride ended up being really fun, and it only costs $8 round-trip (don’t lose your return ticket like my boyfriend!).

This time we bought admission to the aquarium at the Atlantis. The aquarium was neat but not sure if I would pay for it again. What was really lovely was just walking around the property. The Atlantis is such a gorgeous resort with amazing views. One of the most popular attractions here is the water park and pool area. Two of the water slides go through the shark tank, and you can actually go look at the tank without having to pay to go into the water park.

After exploring the Atlantis, we took the ferry back and grabbed a drink before heading back on the ship. We were hoping to get a good seat on the pool deck and relax while everyone was still in port, but it seemed like a lot of people stayed on the ship! Quite the difference from Coco Cay where it seemed like most people got off the ship.

Review of Mariner of the Seas

This was our first time on Mariner of the Seas. We have been on comparable ships, but we definitely enjoyed this ship! This cruise was about relaxing and having a good time, which I think was accomplished. I read two books! Two! The crew and service were as expected. The food was good.  There weren’t as many healthy options (besides the salad bar) in the Windjammer Café as I have seen on other ships, so that was a little disappointing. Other than that, we had a really great time!

The pool deck got crowded during the afternoon because the weather so nice, so make sure to go early to get your chairs if you want to hang out at the pool. Otherwise, we had a wonderful time on our Bahamas cruise on Mariner of the Seas!
