Delta Air Lines is in the middle of one of its most aggressive expansions ever at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), rolling out five new nonstop routes between November 2026 and April 2027. When the last of them takes flight, Delta’s LAX network will grow to 64 routes and more than 160 peak-day departures to over 50 destinations — cementing the airport’s status as what Delta itself calls its “premier West Coast gateway.”
The five additions span short regional hops and a marquee transpacific route: Vancouver, Palm Beach, Monterey, Newark, and Manila. Here’s what’s confirmed across airline statements, airport officials, and aviation trade press.
Vancouver: A Return After Nearly a Decade
Starting November 21, Delta will fly twice daily between LAX and Vancouver International Airport (YVR) on an Airbus A319, year-round. It’s Delta’s first nonstop service on the route since 2018, and it lands the airline in a competitive field — Air Canada, Flair, United, and WestJet all already fly it. The route also arrives at an interesting moment for U.S.-Canada travel, given ongoing trade tensions between the two countries, though that hasn’t slowed Delta’s plans.
Palm Beach: Delta’s Only Year-Round Nonstop
Also launching November 21, Delta will operate daily year-round service between LAX and Palm Beach International Airport aboard an Airbus A321neo. The airport was recently renamed Palm Beach International Airport in honor of President Donald J. Trump. JetBlue serves the same route, but only seasonally — meaning Delta will be the sole carrier flying it nonstop, year-round.
Monterey: The Weekend-Getaway Route
Beginning December 19, Delta becomes the only airline offering nonstop service to Monterey Regional Airport (MRY), with two daily flights to LAX and one daily flight to Salt Lake City (SLC), all operated by SkyWest using Embraer E175 jets configured with 20 First, 20 Comfort, and 44 Main Cabin seats.
The route effectively erases what’s otherwise a roughly five-hour, 320-mile drive from LA, opening up easier weekend access to Carmel-by-the-Sea, Pebble Beach, and Big Sur. Aviation outlets note the timing is deliberate — the routes launch right as peak holiday travel ramps up, and Monterey travelers gain one-stop access to Delta’s full domestic and transpacific network through LAX and SLC.
Newark: A Third New York-Area Option
On April 12, Delta adds twice-daily A321neo service between LAX and Newark Liberty International Airport, including a red-eye flight — giving West Coast travelers another nonstop path into the New York area alongside Delta’s existing JFK and LaGuardia service.
Manila: The Headline Route
The biggest addition, and the one drawing the most trade-press attention, is Delta’s new nonstop service between LAX and Ninoy Aquino International Airport (MNL) in Manila. Delta will operate the route daily aboard its flagship Airbus A350-900 — configured with Delta One, Delta Premium Select, Delta Comfort, and Main Cabin — covering roughly 7,300 miles each way.
A few details vary slightly depending on the source and reporting date:
- Delta’s own announcement and several trade outlets (Business Traveller, Airways Magazine, Recommend) describe the route launching March 28, 2027, starting three times weekly before scaling up to daily service by June 7.
- Other coverage (including the original Men’s Journal piece) simplifies this to a daily launch “in March 2027.”
Either way, the significance is the same: Delta will be the only U.S. carrier flying nonstop between Los Angeles and Manila, directly challenging Philippine Airlines, which currently operates the route alone using Boeing 777-300ERs and will still offer more weekly frequencies than Delta at launch. United also flies nonstop to Manila from the U.S., but from San Francisco, not LAX.
Los Angeles World Airports officials framed the route as culturally significant given LA’s large Filipino community. Doug Webster, LAWA’s chief operations and maintenance officer, said the daily service gives travelers “another direct link to family and culture in the Philippines” and reflects the strength of the Delta–LAX partnership.
The Manila route also extends Delta’s joint venture with Korean Air, giving travelers the option to fly nonstop or connect through Seoul, where Korean Air runs multiple daily Manila flights — part of a combined network spanning more than 260 destinations in the Americas and over 60 across Asia.
Part of a Bigger LAX Push
None of these five routes exist in isolation. Over roughly the past year, Delta has also:
- Launched new LAX service to Hong Kong, Melbourne, and Chicago O’Hare
- Resumed flights to Shanghai
- Built out its largest-ever schedule to Florida
- Opened a second Delta One Lounge at LAX — making it the only airport in Delta’s network with two top-tier lounges in the same terminal, with plans for four dedicated lounge spaces (60,000+ square feet, 1,000+ seats) by 2028
Taken together, the pattern is clear: Delta is treating LAX less like just another big-city hub and more like a strategic gateway to both Asia-Pacific and the rest of the U.S., investing in lounges, aircraft, and long-haul routes at a pace that outstrips most of its other West Coast operations.
