We moved from Chicago to Sarasota about 6 years ago. Although we love the big city, we hate cold weather and were looking for a change of scenery. While Sarasota may not be on your radar when you think of Florida, this small city has a lot to offer! If you are planning a trip to this coast of Florida, you definitely should make a stop here. Check out our top 3 things you should in Sarasota.
- Downtown Sarasota: The downtown area of Sarasota is quickly growing and expanding with new hotels, shops, and restaurants on the way. If you are here just for the weekend, it definitely is worth taking a walk around. Every Saturday there is a great farmer’s market, and during the busy season there are always arts and crafts festivals that are fun to walk through and grab some gifts from local artists. There is also the Bayfront Park which is so beautiful to walk through. Our favorite spot: O’Leary’s Tiki Bar.
- St. Armand’s Circle: This is always a favorite to see while in Sarasota. St. Armand’s Circle is a quick drive from downtown and also features great shops and restaurants. The shops range from souvenir stores to Lilly Pulitzer to The Flip Flop Shop. There are some great restaurants that range from affordable to fancy. Our favorite spot: Shore.
- Siesta Key: Rated the #1 beach in the USA on Trip Advisor, a trip to Sarasota is not complete until you visit Siesta Key! This is our favorite beach to walk on. The sand is so soft and stays cool, even in the hot Florida sun. Siesta Key has great beach-themed restaurants and bars that are frequented by locals and tourists alike. Sunday nights be sure to check out the Siesta Key Drum Circle. It is a must-see event! Our favorite spot: Daiquiri Deck.
The Traveling Gals Tip: No matter where you are going, always be sure to check who is offering happy hour deals!
Of course these are not the only must-do’s in Sarasota, but if you are just coming for a quick visit these are definitely the places to see and be seen!
