Review: Planet Hollywood Las Vegas

Over the summer I went on a trip to Vegas with one of my friends. We stayed at Planet Hollywood Las Vegas, which I have never stayed at or even been in before. My friend and I picked this hotel because it is on The Strip and it was more affordable than some of the other hotels. (We were also there to see Britney Spears, and that is where her show is so that may have influenced our decision as well :D).

Planet Hollywood is certainly not a fancy hotel like the Bellagio or The Venetian. However, it is definitely a fun hotel! We had no idea how much stuff was actually at the hotel, and it is on The Strip, right in the middle of all the action. Obviously Vegas is the city of excess. As I said to my friend, it’s like everything is on steroids here. Planet Hollywood might not be on the top of your list of hotels to stay at, but if you are looking for something a little more affordable on The Strip that is more modern Vegas I definitely would suggest checking out Planet Hollywood.

The actual hotel part is fine. It’s nothing fancy. The pool area is nice, but again nothing fancy. Of course there is more drinking and gambling to be done on the pool deck. They do have a FlowRider (for simulated surfing) which looked pretty fun.  You are really only in the room to sleep and get ready. There’s too much to do in Vegas to sit in the hotel room!

Things To Do

In case you were worried, there is a huge casino. If you don’t really care about gambling (like me), there is plenty of other stuff to do in the hotel. My friend and I pretty much planned this trip to see Britney Spears’ Piece of Me show at The Axis. This show is running until the end of the year. The Backstreet Boys, Jennifer Lopez, and Lionel Richie all have headliner shows here throughout next year as well. Planet Hollywood is also where the America’s Got Talent Live! show is, so you can see the winner of America’s Got Talent. (Right now it is ventriloquist Darci Lynne Farmer.) Ringo Starr and the All Starr Band also perform here. There is also a magician, a variety show, and an adult show. That’s a lot of shows for just one hotel!

Now, on to the food. The dining is definitely more casual, but there are some great options here. Strip House Steakhouse and Koi are the two upscale sit down restaurants at Planet Hollywood Las Vegas. There is also Gordon Ramsay Burger Las Vegas, Spice Market Buffet, Ringer (next to the sports betting area), P.F. Chang’s Las Vegas, Pink’s Hot Dogs, Yolos Mexican Grill, and Earl of Sandwich. Outside on The Strip there is a McDonald’s, Taco Bell, and Subway which get VERY crowded later in the evening. We did not really eat at Planet Hollywood except for I did have Pin-Up Pizza, which was pretty overpriced but it was some good pizza. In the main lobby of the hotel is a Starbucks, which was great for grabbing breakfast on the go. We had lots of things to do!

Planet Hollywood also has Miracle Mile Shops with even more food options and over 200 shops. There is also a Mandara Spa and Salon, and a chapel.

Okay, so now onto the nightlife. There is no shortage of places to grab a drink here. Our favorite place was the Halo Bar, located right outside the entrance to The Axis theater. They had happy hour, and it was a great place to people watch. The service was so-so, but we still had a great time. There is also PH Shiver Frozen Cocktails, Playing Field Lounge, EXTRA Lounge, and the Heart Bar. Miracle Mile Shops also has a ton of bars/restaurants, including a robotic bar which was fun to watch!

One of the best parts about staying at Planet Hollywood Las Vegas, though, was being able to walk outside and being right on The Strip. You are right next to Paris Hotel, right across the street from the Cosmopolitan and Bellagio. It is in a great location.

  1. I really do hope that most people who visit Las Vegas won’t spend any considerable time in their hotel room. This one hotel in terms of location and offering sounds like a very good option. Thanks for the scoop! Who knows, the Grand Canyon might see me sooner than I thought 🙂
