Review: Empress of the Seas When the travel restrictions were eased for traveling to Cuba, the cruise lines jumped at the opportunity to start sailing to Havana. We finally were able to go aboard Royal Caribbean’s Empress of the Seas over Labor Day weekend! Needless to say, we had a wonderful experience. We are very loyal to Royal because we always have a nice time and they have a fabulous loyalty program called Crown & Anchor Society. Since we reached the Diamond level, we almost exclusively sail with Royal now because the perks are so worth it. We also enjoy…

Boston is the biggest little city that is full of culture, history, food, and fun! While you could spend a lot of time here exploring, we only had two days in Boston and packed in as much as we could. We stayed at the newly opened Yotel Boston, and it was great! Fair warning: The rooms are small. But if you just need a nice room to sleep in, this is a great option. The hotel, or should I say Yotel, is very trendy and modern. The hotel rooms are actually called cabins, and it really reminded us of a…

Alpha Centauri Expeditions and Animal Kingdom have brought deep space travel to Disney World! Okay, not really, but they did create an amazing new world to explore called Pandora: The World of Avatar. The tagline is “a world beyond belief,” and they are not wrong about this. It really is an incredibly immersive area. Full disclosure: We have never actually seen the movie Avatar. When Disney announced that they would be doing an Avatar-themed land, we were excited for something new but didn’t really care that it was about Avatar. It took Disney about 10 years to actually build Pandora,…

Berkshire County, or The Berkshires, is a region in Western Massachusetts. It is known for beautiful mountains, a vibrant arts scene, and plenty of outdoor activities to keep you busy all year round.  I spent a week in Western Massachusetts visiting a friend and got to see a lot of this area and had a great time! This part of New England may not be at the…

Disney’s Animal Kingdom is perhaps Disney’s most underrated theme park. It is amazing to walk around and see all the details that went into the different themed areas. The best part about Animal Kingdom, though, is the animals of course! Kilimanjaro Safaris is definitely a must do. There are also two wonderful walking trails where you can see some of the animals a little closer, Maharajah Jungle Trek and Pangani Forest Exploration. If you take the Wildlife Express, you will see Rafiki’s Planet Watch where there is a petting zoo. Throughout the park keep your eyes open because you never know…

Attention all foodies! Savor Sarasota is coming up from June 1-14. Here is an interesting fact for those new to Sarasota and those who live here…Sarasota has the highest concentration of Zagat® rated restaurants in Florida.  It makes sense because even just spending a weekend here provides you with so many quality, food options. 79 restaurants are set to participate this year in the 12th annual Savor Sarasota Restaurant Week.   This 2 week extravaganza is hosted by Visit Sarasota County (VSC), and provides everyone an opportunity to try new restaurants and revisit favorites by enjoying pre-fixe three-course dinner menus and multi course lunch menus.  This…

10 Things to do in Accra 1.       Flagstaff House: Completed in 2009, the Flagstaff House is known as the Presidential Palace. The architecture is based on the Asante Golden Stool. 2.       Jamestown Lighthouse: Jamestown is one of Accra’s oldest districts. The lighthouse was built in the 1930s and offers a nice view of the harbor and city (depending on the level of pollution that day.) Be prepared the navigate up a tiny ladder. 3.       Labadi Beach: Labadi Beach is one of the most popular beaches on the coast and is often crowded on the weekends. It is located east of…

Thank you for supporting The Traveling Gals!* Is Flamingo Friday a thing? If not, it should be! When you are in Florida, you might see quite a few plastic flamingos adorning front lawns. While the flamingo décor is fun, you might be wondering where you can see real live flamingos. Luckily there are some great places to go where you can see flamingos and learn more about them. There are actually six known species of flamingos…

A Day at the Circus Last weekend, The Traveling Gals were lucky enough to be invited to spend the morning training at the Circus!  Sarasota and the Circus have a long history together.  Sarasota was the winter headquarters for John Ringling and is known as the “Circus Capital of the World”.  The international circus community continues to be an integral part of the city’s atmosphere. This was our first time at the Circus Arts Conservatory and shame on us because it is blocks away from our home.  The slogan More Than a Circus is extremely accurate.   The building is shaped…

Ghana in Pictures Ghana is in West Africa on the Gulf of Guinea and bordered by the Ivory Coast, Togo, and Burkina Faso. As it was a former British colony, the main language spoken is English and the people are very friendly. This makes Ghana a great spot for a first time visit to Africa. In fact, many travel guides refer to Ghana as “Africa for beginners.” Accra is the capital city where there is the most to see. Ashley had the opportunity to spend two weeks in Ghana traveling from the south to the northern part of the country….
